I'd give it a 3/5. It had no plot twists. It was exactly what I thought it would be. The acting was poor, the plot lacking, and ending was stupid.

You know when you come out asking things like "why didn't they just...?" that the movie was disappointing.

** SPOILER ALERT **

No plot twists? Several times the main character did things I didn't expect... like trying to steal the buried ship or leaving his prawn buddy behind at first. Its no Sixth Sense but I felt it was far from predictable.

The movie reminded me a bit of Starship Troopers with all the gore and bodies exploding :)

I'm actually with Genesis on this one, it was an average film to me.

I also enjoyed the fact that the visual effects were so "in your face". Yeah they had realistic looking aliens, but I didn't feel like they were forced down my throat like other flicks (Star Wars Ep 1)

Some buzz on the street about it being the sci-fi film of the year. I don't necessarily agree with that, especially when compared to Star Trek.

I liked it actually a lot. i'd give it a 4 out of 5. They tried to make it a documentary but at times they kept fucking up with that and were going back and forth with it being a drama/doc. I liked the ending it kind of left things open making you wonder what is really going to happen in 3 years. And i know a lot of people dont like that people want closure, is the duder gunna be okay? is Christopher Johnson going to come back and save his people, etc etc. I liked it because it also had a lot of sadly humans acting more like animals than the "creatures"; giving into greed and doing what ever they can to get a head or save ones self. Very interesting movie.

for 30 mil i was impressed with the visuals.
lot of themes in the movie.

although i liked inglorious basterds more (despite people hating it because there are too much talking and less blood and gore like most quentin's movies) i think district 9 was super hyped because peter jackson's name was on it. still really good movie and 3432432432 times better than that stupid crap called gi joe. i also recommend everyone to watch hurt locker also an amazing movie.

i liked inglorious more too, sure there was a lot of talking but it had incredible dialogue like the majority of tarantino movies

Really gotta go see this before it leaves theatres. I've heard a lot of good things about it. I'll have my verdict shortly.

Well the thing is quentin's movies were the best when they were mostly dialog, think about Reservoir dogs and pulp fiction, there was little action or blood (well ok quit a bit of blood but little gore). When remembering his 'root' movies you don't remember huge high budget action scenes you remember the quotes.

also district 9 was the shit.

By the way, the DVDs have some good documentaries add in the Special Features section.

I was most surprised to find out that very little dialog was pre-written for the movie. The director let the actors ad-lib for many of the scenes, and only interjected when he felt things were not aligning well to the story.

Such a fact impresses me even more about the movie and the actors. Every time I'm sitting through a so-so movie where some actor is forced to read terrible lines I wonder "gee, does this guy/gal even know what they are reading".

In District 9 the dialog is natural..because its impromptu and flows from the actor's own understanding of the character.

This movie still gets two thumbs up from me!
